Tragedy On The Road: DUI Accidents in Stuart FL
DUI Arrests for underage drinking up after Cove Road tragedy
The deaths of three Martin County teenagers on August 4, 2009 in an alcohol-related car crash wasn't enough to put a damper on underage drinking in Martin County.
Records obtained from the State Attorney’s Office show more teenagers were arrested in Martin County for alcohol-related offenses in the months after the wreck than in the months leading up to the Aug. 4 incident in which three teen age boys, all of Stuart, were killed when the Jeep Cherokee slammed into a front-end loader at a construction site on Cove Road.
Unfortunately, fatalities aren’t enough to stop future fatalities. Kids lose friends all the time in this community; and teenagers are so self-absorbed that, unless it was someone directly related to them, they get past it pretty quickly. So, the tragedies repeat again and again. If people aren’t affected directly by an accident like the one on Stuart's Cove Road, they don’t see the problem. But if it’s your kid, it hits harder and sticks with you longer.
